January 26, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has called the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly (UNS) a limiter and supervisor for the authorities that should consist of “suitable people.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We should not repeat the Gorbachev era when we rejoiced like cartoon watchers that there would be happiness. We ruined our country and fell into a hole,” he said in Minsk, as quoted by his press office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UNS, according to \u0141uka\u0161enka, “should be on guard during the transition period and generational change. It should see what is going on.” “Therefore, it is there that we should decide on the Military Doctrine and the National Security Concept. Issues of war and peace are of utmost importance for us,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the updated Constitution, the UNS is the supreme representative body that sets the strategic priorities for society and the state. It ensures “the inviolability of the constitutional order, the continuity of generations and civil harmony.” It has a maximum of 1,200 members with a five-year mandate. The UNS must convene at least once a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It can propose legislation and constitutional amendments and will approve foreign and domestic policy priorities and socioeconomic programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
