{"id":64568,"date":"2024-02-02T11:29:36","date_gmt":"2024-02-02T08:29:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=64568"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"update-on-arrests-trials-politically-motivated-persecution-124","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/64568\/","title":{"rendered":"Update on arrests, trials, politically-motivated persecution"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>February 2, <em>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> New cases of politically-motivated persecution were documented in Belarus on February 1 as authorities kept punishing all signs of dissent.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trials<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Hrodna woman was fined 1,200 rubels ($375) last month for following opposition content on Instagram, the <em>Pravo Imeyut<\/em> initiative reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A judge in Hrodna jailed a man for seven days for reposting opposition content in a Telegram chat, the same initiative said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Criminal proceedings<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrej Brem\u0161midt, a member of the elected council in Zas\u0142a\u016dje, Minsk region, will go on trial on charges of financing extremism and terrorism, <em>Na\u0161a Niva<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities have not disclosed any further details of the case. Brem\u0161midt was in charge of a construction company before his arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Extremist&#8221; list update<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The interior ministry blacklisted sixteen people for alleged involvement in &#8220;extremist activities,&#8221; including Alaksandar Ju\u0161kievi\u010d, Alaksiej A\u016ddzieje\u016d, Andrej Savinski, Aleh Vo\u016dk and Andrej Mindubaje\u016d, all of whom rights groups consider political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other instances of persecution<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two men in Hrodna and one in Lida, Hrodna region, signed a confession, admitting to donating $25, \u20ac10 and \u20ac3, respectively, to opposition initiatives, a pro-government source said. No charges were reported, as they reportedly paid a compensation to an account indicated by authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of February 2, human rights defenders identified at least 1,415 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.
