February 2, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The District Court in Bia\u0142ystok, Poland, has sentenced a Russian and a Belarusian to four years in prison, Polskie Radio<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The men were tried behind closed doors on charges of spying for Russian military intelligence in 2017\u20132022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigators accused them of collecting information on Polish military units, their disposition, equipment and personnel, as well as military bases of their allies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their goals included identifying critical elements of the Polish Armed Forces and learning about their missions near the Belarusian border in light of the migrant crisis there, according to the statement of charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both defendants were in Poland legally. The Belarusian had studied in Bia\u0142ystok before organizing airborne training and networking for intelligence purposes. The Russian worked in the field of culture and tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The men were arrested in April 2022 and are in jail. They can appeal the sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Polish Military Counterintelligence Service reported that in 2022 Poland arrested 20 suspected Russian or Belarusian spies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
