Feburary 8, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Alaksandar Azara\u016d, head of the ByPol resistance group, has expressed surprise that the prosecutor requested a 25-year prison sentence for him and not \u201cthe capital punishment, as the regime media had predicted.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prosecutor requested 25 years for Azara\u016d and 11\u201312 years for other defendants in a coup d’\u00e9tat case today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo threats, actions or sentences will stop Azara\u016d and ByPol. We will only move forward and get angrier, and all those involved in the sentencing will answer in court. We will register their crimes,\u201d the leader told Pozirk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minsk City Court has been hearing a “special procedure” case against ByPol since January 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to investigators, the defendants and other ByPol members agitated the masses and exerted pressure on the government and civil servants by publishing their personal data on the Internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also accused ByPol of a \u201cspecial operation\u201d called Victory Plan and of involvement in the \u201cextremist\u201d groups, such as the opposition United Transitional Cabinet and Paspalitaje Ru\u0161e\u0144nie, a network of patriotic self-defense training camps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian government uses the special procedure to prosecute its exiled opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
