February 9, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The interior ministry has added 12 more people to the list of “persons involved in extremist activities,” taking the total of entries to 3,765, its website says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Five of them are serving sentences on charges widely seen as politically motivated: D\u017amitryj Pa\u0161yn, U\u0142adzimir Ramano\u016dski, Alaksandar Levin, Raman Zajca\u016d and Illa Celi\u010denka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ramano\u016dski and Pa\u0161yn were given two years in prison for allegedly insulting Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka; Levin was convicted of inciting hatred; Zajca\u016d, on protest-related charges and Celi\u010denka, of facilitating extremism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other seven persons are free, but their criminal records have not been expunged, affecting their rights, including the right to work. Charges against them ranged from insulting \u0141uka\u0161enka and officials to participating in protests and abusing state symbols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People placed on the list of individuals involved in extremist activities are prohibited from engaging in education activity, publishing, as well as from holding state positions and from doing military service, for five years after completing their sentences or criminal record annulment. Their financial transactions are subject to special monitoring. They are also banned from activities involving narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, arms and ammunition and explosives, for five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
