February 14, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarusian exports of goods to Russia grew by 9.1 percent to $25 billion in 2023, exceeding the government’s expectation of a 6.5-percent growth, Belarusian Ambassador to Russia D\u017amitryj Krutoj told officials on February 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Western sanctions \u201ctriggered\u201d a sharp rise in Belarusian exports to Russia, Krutoj told the ONT TV channel on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cReorienting $10.5 billion of exports . . . in particular, to the Russian Federation, was by and large a question of the survival for our economy and a stress test for its stability,\u201d the diplomat said. \u201cIt is great that it worked out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past two years, Belarus increased its exports to Russia by $8.5 billion, rerouting its cargo flows and using Russian ports, he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2023, Belarus’s exports grew annually only by about 3 percent despite the surge in the physical volume of exports by 25 percent, including to Asia and Latin America, Deputy Economy Minister Andrej Kartun said in mid-January. The government plans export growth to exceed 7 percent in 2024, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
