February 16, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The interior ministry has added 24 more names to the list of “persons involved in extremist activities,” taking the total of entries to 3,789, its website says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only five people out of 24 are serving their sentences. Rights groups listed three of them \u2013 Valeryj Tacyn, Ja\u016dhien \u0160\u010darbina and Juryj Jurenia \u2013 as political prisoners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tacyn was given one year in prison for allegedly insulting Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and Jurenia, five years in prison for donations to opposition initiatives. Jurenia\u2019s jailed son Vital had been branded as an extremist in October. \u0160\u010darbina was persecuted on charges of inciting hatred and gross violations of public order, but authorities did not disclose the verdict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The updated list features Pavie\u0142 Karobkin and Alaksandar Piskuno\u016d, both convicted for allegedly insulting \u0141uka\u0161enka. Piskuno\u016d was also persecuted on charges of insulting officials, inciting hatred and slandering Luka\u0161enka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other 19 persons are free, but their criminal records have not been expunged, affecting their rights, including the right to work. One of them is Ukrainian national Roman Huzynsky convicted on charges of gross violations of public order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People placed on the list of individuals involved in extremist activities are prohibited from engaging in education activity, publishing, as well as from holding state positions and from doing military service, for five years after completing their sentences or criminal record annulment. Their financial transactions are subject to special monitoring. They are also banned from activities involving narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, arms and ammunition and explosives, for five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
