February 22, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Switzerland has set up a special group to monitor compliance with sanctions against Belarus and Russia, said Fabian Maienfisch, a spokesman for the Swiss secretariat for economic affairs (SECO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“SECO has decided to form a special ‘investigation and enforcement’ group to stiffen compliance with financial sanctions ,” Maienfisch said, according to a TASS<\/em> report in Russian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group will be handling criminal proceedings, investigative actions, ownership analysis, and “control over complex corporate structures,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He went on to say that SECO received about 230 reports of suspicious cases, which have resulted in 47 criminal proceedings, nine involving fines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August 2023, Switzerland supported the sanctions package against Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s regime, adopted by the European Union on the third anniversary of a disputed presidential election. Earlier, Bern had joined other European sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU announced the introduction of the 13th sanctions package against Russia by February 24, 2024, the second anniversary since Russian armies invaded Ukraine. The package is expected to include individuals and entities from Belarus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
