February 22, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> As early voting continues in Belarus\u2019 parliamentary and local elections, top security officials have been visiting education establishments with lectures laced with anti-Western and anti-opposition rhetoric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sanctions by the United States and its allies are designed to \u201cstrangle Belarus, capture sales markets and line their pockets, selling their products,\u201d Alaksandar Valfovi\u010d, state secretary of the Security Council, told teachers and students at Civil Protection University of the Ministry of Emergency Management in Minsk on February 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe world is on the edge today,\u201d SB. Belarus Segodnya<\/em> quoted him as saying. He accused the West of demonizing Belarus\u2019 as an axis of evil \u201cusing visa restrictions, border closures and creating a collapse at transport checkpoints.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interior Minister Ivan Kurbako\u016d on the same day reminded Belarusian State University students of \u201cmeasures taken by the government to counter extremism,\u201d the ministry\u2019s press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Juryj Nazaranka, the first deputy interior minister, lectured students on \u201cmodern phenomena such as extremism and terrorism and their influence on youth\u201d at the Maksim Tank Belarusian State Teachers\u2019 Training University, reported Na Strazhe<\/em> and Militsiya Belarusi<\/em>, periodicals run by the interior ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Prosecutor General Andrej \u0160vied on February 22 gave a lecture to Belarusian State University students on \u201cgenocide against the Belarusian people\u201d during World War II, the agency\u2019s Telegram channel reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He claimed that \u201ca large wing of neo-Nazis\u201d acted on the streets during the 2020 postelection protests, which he described as an attempted coup. He used his speech to identify peaceful protesters with Nazis and equate political opposition with extremism and terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that prosecutors suspect more than 100 people of \u201crehabilitating Nazism,\u201d a charges routinely used by authorities to silence critics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe medieval fight for territories and resources continues,\u201d \u0160vied said. \u201cThe successors of Nazis obsessed with the idea of retaliation\u201d follow the footsteps of Crusaders, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Security forces are on standby as early voting is under way in Belarus\u2019 parliamentary and local elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus has not held a single free and fair election since 1996, according to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, the Alaskandar \u0141uka\u0161enka government decided against inviting OSCE observers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
