February 23, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The United States has included one company and two individuals from Belarus in the package of sanctions unveiled on the eve of the third anniversary of the ongoing war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It included the 558th Aircraft Repair Plant based in Baranavi\u010dy, its CEO Pavie\u0142 Pinihin, and Paralympian Alaksiej Ta\u0142aj in the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sanctions were also imposed on Russia’s envoy in Minsk Boris Gryzlov and its former envoy there Dmitriy Mezentsev, who currently serves as the state secretary of the Union State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the Russian National Card Payment System that operates the Mir cards was listed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On January 1, 2022, trade organizations, cash services, and ATM businesses were obliged to accept these cards due to the integration of the Belkart and Mir payment systems, the Belarusian central bank said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ta\u0142aj was added to the European Union’s sanctions list on February 23. The EU named him a key figure in the deportation and in the illegal adoption of Ukrainian children by Russian and Belarusian families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russia began the full-scale war against Ukraine on February 24, 2022. The Belarusian authorities claim that their troops are not involved in combat operations. However, the Russians freely used Belarusian territory to attack Ukraine at the outset of the invasion and in some later periods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August 2022, Ukrainian intelligence said Minsk and Moscow signed contracts for aircraft repairs. Workers from the 558th Aircraft Repair Plant traveled to a plant in the Moscow region to repair and commission aircraft, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
