February 26, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The German foreign ministry has condemned the “systemic repression surrounding the elections in Belarus” in a statement<\/a> posted on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The [Alaksandar] \u0141uka\u0161enka regime employs all available means to suppress the democratic aspirations of the people of Belarus. It has witnessed their strength [in 2020] \u2013 and this strength continues to scare the regime,” it reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2023, authorities denied re-registration to all democratic parties. They also banned opposition candidates from running in the parliamentary and local elections that took place last week amid mass-scale reprisals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The central election commission reported that 41.71 percent of registered voters cast ballots during the early voting, with overall voter turnout at 73 percent, the lowest after the 2000 election.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
