{"id":70492,"date":"2024-02-29T20:54:26","date_gmt":"2024-02-29T17:54:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/70492\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","slug":"human-rights-groups-declare-former-ucp-leader-political-prisoner","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/70492\/","title":{"rendered":"Human rights groups declare former UCP leader political prisoner"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>February 29, <em>Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian human rights groups have declared eight people political prisoners, bringing the total to 1,410, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They granted this status to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Viktoryja Kazakova<\/strong>, sentenced to a year in prison under Articles 188 (defamation), 367 (defamation of the president) and 368 (insulting the president) of the Criminal Code;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>D\u017amitryj Palako\u016d<\/strong>, sentenced to a year and a half in prison under Article 369 (insulting a public official);<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Valeryj Samsonienka<\/strong>, sentenced to a year in prison under Article 370 (desecration of state symbols);<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>U\u0142adzimir Lisica<\/strong>, sentenced to three years in prison under Articles 368 and 369;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hienad\u017a Vasiluk<\/strong>, sentenced to an unknown period under Article 367;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ja\u016dhien K\u0142ada\u016d<\/strong>, sentenced to a year in prison under Article 368;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Radzivon Ka\u015bciniec<\/strong>, arrested under arts 367, 368, 369, and 391 (insulting a judge or a lay judge).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vasil Palako\u016d<\/strong>, a former leader of the United Civic Party, was also designated as a political prisoner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He had served a 30-day sentence in November 2023 and later was arrested again. Since January 23, 2023 he has received three consecutive 15-day sentences for allegedly sharing extremist content, an offense against Article 19.11 of the Administrative Offenses Code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belarusian authorities used short consecutive jail sentences before to intimidate their opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rights groups demand that the authorities immediately release all political prisoners and other citizens arrested for exercising their right to peaceful assembly, and stop political reprisals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statements have been signed by Viasna, the Belarusian Helsinki Committee, Belarusian PEN, the Office for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Belarusian Association of Journalists, Pravavaja Inicyjatyva, Lawtrend and Human Constanta.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>February 29, Pozirk.
