March 1, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Lithuanian President Gitanas Naus\u0117da defended Vilnius\u2019 decision to close two more checkpoints at the shared border with Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, not Lithuania, is lowering the iron curtain, Delfi<\/a><\/em> reported citing him as saying. The Belarusian ruler has been doing it for four years by rigging elections and abusing human rights, Naus\u0117da added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuanian president stressed that Belarus “has become Russia’s tool,” serving as a springboard for attacks on Ukraine and forcing the neighbors to distance themselves from the dictator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia and Poland have already done so by limiting border crossings to one each, while Lithuania decided to keep two checkpoints open, Naus\u0117da said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vilnius closed Lavori\u0161k\u0117s (Kat\u0142o\u016dka on the Belarusian side) and Raigardas (Pryva\u0142ka) on March 1, citing national security, smuggling and international sanctions compliance as the reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
