Later, authorities reportedly accused her under the Administrative Offenses Code. Her current status remains unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On February 15, a judge in Bie\u0161ankovi\u010dy, Viciebsk region, fined Aksana \u0160alepava 600 rubels (about $185) on similar charges, the Viciebsk branch of the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A day later, the same court also jailed Alaksiej Syta\u016d for 15 days for following <em>Na\u0161a Niva<\/em> and <em>Belsat TV<\/em> channel on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New criminal charges<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities accused a 54-year-old man from Minsk of rehabilitating Nazism, denying genocide against Belarusian people, insulting Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and violating public order, the interior ministry&#8217;s press office said. Since 2020, he has been running a social media group where he posted opposition content and reportedly blamed the Soviet authorities for crimes against Belarusian civilians during World War II instead of the Nazi invaders, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Criminal proceedings<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Journalist Ihar Karniej will go on trial in Minsk on extremism-related charges on March 19, the electronic court schedule says. He has been in custody since July 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Raman Ha\u0142uza will go on trial behind closed doors in Minsk on March 21, Viasna reported. He was arrested upon his return from Poland in July 2022. Ha\u0142uza has Polish citizenship and used to help exiled Belarusians. Authorities accuse him of high treason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other instances of persecution<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities did not release Andrej Kudzik after 15 days in jail, Viasna reported. In July 2023, he was released from prison after serving a two-year term for alleged protest-related crimes. Last October, he was given a 15-day jail term for a TikTok congratulation of Ukraine on its Independence Day. His TikTok account was later blacklisted as \u201cextremist\u201d content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of March 4, human rights defenders identified at least 1,405 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.
