Fines are pushing people to the edge of poverty, and they turn to us because they have nothing else to fear.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The authorities are &#8220;practically ruining people with these fines,&#8221; he added. &#8220;Those who are not ruined are imprisoned. BY_help will continue to help the oppressed and their relatives in Belarus.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lavon\u010dyk did not elaborate on the aid for security reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Law enforcers detained at least 287 people, most of them women, during the crackdown on January 23 and the following days. One of the reasons for the raids, interrogations and arrests was the food shipped to political prisoners&#8217; families through the Edostavka service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Viasna Human Rights Center, Belarus prosecuted at least 100 people in February for receiving aid. They were found guilty of \u201cusing foreign aid to conduct extremist activities.\u201d The charge carries a fine of 10-30 times the Base Rate with the confiscation of the aid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At least 24 people were charged with breaking Articles 361-4 (facilitating extremism), 361-2 (financing extremism) and 361-1 (the establishment of or participation in an extremist formation) of the Criminal Code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Detainees were offered freedom in exchange for exorbitant payoffs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>March 5, Pozirk.
