March 10, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The European Union’s countries are ready to resume exports of goods from the Mahilo\u016d region, said Rus\u0142an Strachar, deputy chair of the regional executive committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Before the [introduction of] sanctions, 40 percent of exports [from the Mahilo\u016d region] went to Europe. That was the largest market. It took time to redirect and build new logistics chains,” the state-run Mogilevskie Vedomosti<\/em> Telegram channel cited him as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official claimed that the EU is seeking to resume cooperation as the Mahilo\u016d region’s companies are increasing their exports. “We are already negotiating with some European countries,” he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past few years, the EU has imposed multiple restrictions on Belarus over human rights abuses, alleged vote rigging in the 2020 presidential election, a brutal crackdown on protesters, the forced landing of a Ryanair flight, a migration crisis at the EU border, as well as support of Russia’s war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus is subject to targeted\u00a0economic sanctions, including restrictions in the financial sector, trade, dual-use goods, technology and telecommunication, energy, transport and others. Import restrictions apply to potassium chloride, cement, steel, wood and petroleum products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland and Latvia are pushing for a ban on imports of agricultural products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
