March 12, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Moscow expects that the number of Shanghai Cooperation Organization members will increase to 10 on July 4 because of Belarus, the Russian president’s special representative for the SCO, Bakhtiyer Khakimov, said at a briefing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I will say straight away that the signing of the decision on Belarus’ membership will be a key result of the upcoming summit,” he said, as quoted by TASS.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There is no doubt about it. Belarus has fulfilled all its commitments under the memorandum on obligations. This document has been approved and passed intrastate procedures in all member states.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus “tried to actively participate as much as possible in all areas of SCO activity” as a dialogue partner and later as an observer, Khakimov said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our Belarusian friends are ready. The SCO platform is anything but new to them, and they have a lot of ideas. I am convinced that Belarus will make not only a useful but also a tangible practical contribution to the development of the organization,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Established in 2001, the SCO comprises China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Belarus has been the SCO\u2019s partner since 2010 and an observer since 2015. Minsk applied for SCO membership in July 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
