March 13, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Former journalist Alaksandar Ihnaciuk, who has been designated as a political prisoner, will stand trial on March 15 at the Stolin District Court in the Brest region, according to an online schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judge Siarhiej Nasienia will open the trial at 11 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ihnaciuk is charged with extortion, organizing or participating in a riot and defaming the head of state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 11, the interior ministry reported the detention of an unnamed YouTuber from the Brest region’s Pinsk district suspected of extortion and extremism. The man was previously tried for “insulting a state official,” it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Human rights activists established that the report was about Ihnaciuk, who has been in detention since July 2023. It was revealed that the man was apprehended on suspicion of supporting extremism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until 2003, Ihnaciuk published the independent regional newspaper Vecherniy Stolin<\/em>. Later, he was the editor of the Pro Stolin<\/em> website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
