{"id":73382,"date":"2024-03-15T17:30:40","date_gmt":"2024-03-15T14:30:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/73382\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","slug":"eu-stops-156-illegal-migrants-at-belarus-border-2","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/73382\/","title":{"rendered":"EU stops 156 illegal migrants at Belarus border"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>March 15, <em>Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The European Union (EU) has not allowed at least 156 migrants to enter illegally from Belarus over the past day, down 11 from yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service did not register any border violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The number of illegal border crossings between Belarus and Latvia rose to 32.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Polish Border Guard said 200 foreigners tried to illegally enter from Belarus in the last two days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the start of 2024, the EU thwarted at least 1,750 illegal border crossings on its shared border with Belarus, with 1,342 attempts via Poland, 360 via Latvia and 48 via Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Pozirk<\/em>\u2019s analysis of daily stats indicated fluctuated tension at the Belarusian-EU border throughout 2023 with a significant decrease by the end of the year and in January 2024. Starting from February, illegal border crossings have been on the rise again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border started in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent migrants from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It escalated in November 2021, with hundreds of migrants storming the Polish border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Baltic states and Poland accused Belarusian authorities of creating the trouble, while the latter blamed it on the West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In August 2023, the interior ministers of Poland and the Baltic States warned that they would close the border with Belarus in case of a surge in illegal migration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>March 15, Pozirk.
