March 19, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The European Union is planning to impose tariffs on grain imports from Russia and Belarus, Reuters<\/em> reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It quoted Financial Times<\/em> as saying that the European Commission would propose a duty of \u20ac95 per metric ton on cereals from Belarus and Russia, as well as 50 percent tariffs on oilseeds and derivatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It went on to quote an EU official as saying that these figures are “about right” but still to be finalized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another official noted that it is likely to be a tariff because trade measures only require majority support, while sanctions require unanimity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tariffs would apply to grain intended for use in the 27 EU countries and would not extend to grain in transit through the bloc to other countries, the agency’s sources said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
