March 19, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Kanstancin Kalco\u016d, the former Belarusian ice hockey player whose death was reported in the early hours of March 19, died by apparent suicide, Tribuna.com<\/em> said citing the Miami-Dade Police Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police told the sports media outlet that the Belarusian jumped from a balcony at the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Miami-Dade Police Department, Homicide Bureau, responded and has taken over the investigation of the apparent suicide of Mr. Konstantin Koltsov. No foul play is suspected,” a police spokesman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tennis365<\/em> reported that he died while accompanying his girlfriend, Belarusian tennis star Aryna Sabalenka, to the Miami Open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the site, Sabalenka, who was knocked out of the Indian Wells Open last week, “was due to play at the Miami Open this week with her first match at the event scheduled for Friday.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is mourning the death of her partner but is still planning to play the tournament in Florida, it added later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kalco\u016d played for Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s team more than once and signed an open letter of athletes supporting the regime amid the 2020 reprisals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kalco\u016d also played 67 international games for the Belarusian national team, scoring 21 goals. As part of the team, he represented the country at the 2002 and 2010 Winter Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He played for Dinamo Minsk, Spartak Moscow, Ak Bars Kazan and other hockey clubs. Between 2002 and 2006 he played for Pittsburgh Penguins in the USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2006 he joined Salavat Yulaev. In 2016 he gave up his career as a player and became an assistant coach. He also coached the national team of Belarus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
