Ivonka Survi\u0142a, chairwoman of the Rada of the Belarusian National Republic (BNR), Belarus\u2019 oldest government in exile, has announced awards for services to the Belarusian people on March 25, marking the 106th anniversary of the proclamation of Belarusian independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prominent opposition politician Zianon Pa\u017aniak and jailed human rights champion Ale\u015b Bialacki have been awarded the Order of Pahonia, an award which has not been in use since 1950.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The BNR Rada cited Pa\u017aniak\u2019s &#8220;invaluable contribution to the independence of Belarus, national revival, and defense of democracy&#8221; and Bialacki\u2019s &#8220;moral and social leadership&#8221; in his defense of civil and cultural rights in Belarus while being at risk of persecution for his activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two religious and spiritual leaders and two political prisoners whose names have not been disclosed for fear of persecution will receive the same award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Order of Pahonia medal has been awarded among others to Ale\u015b Zarambiuk, head of the Warsaw-based Belarusian House, Dzianis Prochara\u016d and Vadzim Kaban\u010duk of the Kastu\u015b Kalino\u016dski Regiment fighting under Ukrainian command, Karalina Mackievi\u010d of the Francysk Skaryna Library in London, journalist Alena Radkievi\u010d, British researcher Alan Flowers and opposition activist Siarhiej Jur\u010danka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The BNR Rada has also recognized contributions to Belarusian culture and education by awarding the Order of Pahonia medal to textbook author Alina Va\u016draniuk, head of Kamunikat.org online library Jaras\u0142a\u016d Ivaniuk and poet Andrej Chadanovi\u010d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Survi\u0142a has also awarded medals for combat services to several officers and soldiers from the Kalino\u016dski Regiment and a Belarusian soldier serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>March 26, Pozirk.
