March 26, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> “The methods of dissent suppressors in Belarus are not inferior to the methods of Stalin’s executioners,” said Volha Harbunova, the United Transitional Cabinet’s representative on social policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was speaking at the opening of the “Stalin’s Reprisals in Belarus” exhibition at the Tuskul\u0117nai memorial in Vilnius today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition commemorates the victims of mass executions at Kabylackaja Hill, a wooded area near Or\u0161a, Viciebsk region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The place where we are, the former Tuskul\u0117nai Manor, was an execution site for 767 people,” Harbunova said, as quoted by the UTC press office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There are many similar places in Belarus. One of them is Kabylackaja Hill where, researchers estimate, up to 5,000 people were shot,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She noted that she personally experienced detention in Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Every day, we do everything possible for the release of political prisoners,” Harbunova said. “Our solidarity and the active work of political organizations, civil society and independent media are important today. We cannot be silent. We cannot think that everything will go away by itself.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Tuskul\u0117nai and Kabylackaja Hill remind us what brutal massacres dictatorships are capable of,” she added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
