March 29, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The Belarusian army may be preparing for a tank attack on Lithuania to pave the way to Russia’s Kaliningrad exclave, Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka of the opposition transition cabinet told the Belarusian 6TV <\/em>project, citing an information leak. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview broadcast on YouTube on Thursday, the politician said that Belarusian and Russian security forces drilled this scenario a few months ago. Russian tactical nuclear weapons deployed in Belarus, including the Iskander missile systems, are a part of the plan, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even though this scenario cannot be used today, it may become \u201crealistic\u201d in the future, the politician warned, noting that Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka is “creating a permanent threat to neighboring countries.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian ruler may try to help Vladimir Putin implement his plans of stopping Western support to Ukraine and returning NATO to its 1996 borders, he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141atu\u0161ka also recalled earlier claims by Pavie\u0142 Muraviejka of the Belarusian Security Council, who said that Belarus had every reason to cut a \u201cvital corridor by force of arms\u201d because Lithuania had allegedly banned the movement of goods across the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141atu\u0161ka\u2019s statements come amid an ongoing combat-readiness drill in the Belarusian army that was launched in response to NATO\u2019s Steadfast Defender, a multi-domain exercise taking place from late January to the end of May. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The defense ministry said it called up 5,000 reservists for training. The scale of Steadfast Defender is much bigger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
