April 2, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Belarusian defense ministry has reported the launch of command staff practice in forming territorial forces in the Homiel and Hrodna regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exercises focus on protecting territorial defense facilities and using volunteer corps to enforce martial law, said D\u017amitryj Stra\u0161ynski, deputy head of the Belarusian General Staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The training will continue until April 4 near Voranava, Karma and Raha\u010do\u016d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry had announced the exercise in Raha\u010do\u016d on March 30. A reinforced checkpoint was being equipped at the city’s northern entrance for reservists to practice “organizing access regime during martial law,” it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin on April 2 inspected 19th Guards Detached Mechanized Brigade troops exercising at a training ground near Lepiel, Viciebsk region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian Armed Forces launched the comprehensive exercise on March 11, calling up 5,000 reservists for live-fire and other training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The maneuvers come in response to NATO\u2019s Steadfast Defender, a multi-domain exercise from late January to the end of May near Belarus\u2019 borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin announced on March 26 that the combat-readiness exercise will be held annually, given the geopolitical situation around Belarus and the hostile rhetoric of neighboring countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the same day, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka inspected a tank battalion stationed in the Hrodna region\u2019s A\u0161miany district near the Lithuanian border, instructing the military and border guards to respond harshly to all border violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He declared that Belarus and Russia do not intend to attack Western count. On April 2, the Belarusian ruler said, however, that his country was preparing for war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
