April 2, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Andrej Jahora\u016d, speaker at the opposition Coordination Council, hopes that tens of thousands of people will cast their votes for new councilors online in late May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vote is significant because new members could influence the Belarusian democratic forces’ current policies, Jahora\u016d told a news conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If candidates are active, the number of voters could exceed 50,000, he estimated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This could be the first election of an exiled representative body in the world’s history to be held completely online,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The voting platform would be launched by Pavie\u0142 Libier and his IT team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Libier told the conference that it would be fully decentralized and protected from hacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusians could vote inside and outside the country, he said, but those inside should take basic safety precautions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Coordination Council tried to solve Belarus’ political crisis in 2020 and later transformed into a proto-parliament, analysts say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
