April 3, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The migration crisis at the border with Belarus will drag on for years, Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwi\u0144ski said today in Bialystok, while visiting the Podlaskie branch of the Border Guard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There are more and more attempts to illegally cross the Polish-Belarusian border and enter Polish territory,” Kierwi\u0144ski said, as quoted<\/a> by the ministry’s press office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“No one doubts that the migration route through Belarus to Poland is artificial, created by Belarusian services,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are starting the process of strengthening the barrier at the border: more electronics, optoelectronics and special security measures. We must do it because the practice of instrumentalizing migrants will be with us for many years.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister and his deputy Czeslaw Mroczek also met with border guards at the border strip in Bia\u0142owie\u017ca and Po\u0142owce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis shows that the Polish Border Guard has foiled at least 4,110 illegal crossings from Belarus since the beginning of the year. Most of them, 3,438, were stopped last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, the EU countries bordering Belarus have thwarted at least 5,082 such attempts in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
