April 4, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has appointed Alaksandar P\u0161onny as the new CEO of Bie\u0142lespapierapram, a state-run wood, pulp and paper conglomerate, his press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

P\u0161onny, a former deputy CEO, fills the position left vacant by Michai\u0142 Ka\u015bko appointed as ambassador to India on January 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If you work properly, you can sell in Europe and anywhere you want,” the Belarusian leader instructed P\u0161onny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus increased trade with Poland almost 5-fold in some commodity groups, he added, noting that Poland, Germany and the European Union prioritize business interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere are no friends and no foes for business. There are just interests,\u201d the Belarusian leader’s press office quoted him as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EU sanctions introduced in March 2022 affected more than 40 percent of Bie\u0142lespapierapram exports, its former CEO Ka\u015bko said earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian woodworking companies evade sanctions by redirecting exports to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, from where relabeled Belarusian products are delivered to Europe and sold using forged documents, investigative journalists reported earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the restrictions, Bie\u0142lesekspart, the conglomerate\u2019s export arm, sold $118 million worth of timber in 2023, its CEO Leanid Dziamjanik said at a news conference in mid-March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian ruler has also promoted Siarhiej Stalar\u010duk to CEO of the Development Bank of Belarus and appointed several regional executives, including Maksim Antaniuk as head of the Baranavi\u010dy City Executive Committee and D\u017amitryj Haradziecki and Alaksandar Iljasievi\u010d as deputy heads of the Brest and Minsk Regional Executive Committees, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
