April 4, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian Ambassador to Russia D\u017amitryj Krutoj has said that the appearance of singer An\u017ealika Ahurba\u0161, who is critical of of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, on the air of Russia’s Channel One<\/em> undermines “the unity of the peoples” of Belarus and Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The singer featured in a report about the Golden Music children’s music competition on the morning of April 2, SOTA<\/em> reported. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It published a photocopy of the letter Krutoj sent to Channel One<\/em> CEO Konstantin Ernst. Krutoj said that giving the singer airtime “on the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia” was a “planned provocation.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diplomat charged that since August 2020, Ahurba\u0161 has been inciting enmity against law-enforcement officers and public officials on the Internet, as well as publishing “information containing insults to Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Prosecutor General’s Office in Belarus has opened a criminal case against A.A. Ahurba\u0161,” he said. “We also recall that in August 2020, Ahurba\u0161 actively participated in unauthorized rallies and pickets in front of the Belarusian Embassy in Moscow.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Krutoj warned Ernst against cooperating with Ahurba\u0161 and promised to help him “establish contacts with patriotic representatives of the Belarusian pop music scene who share the ideas of union integration.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahurba\u0161 is a former member of the band Vierasy, popular both in Belarus and Russia, and an Honored Artist of Belarus. In 2005, she represented the country at the Eurovision Song Contest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahurba\u0161 (Agurbash) is a Russian citizen and lives in Moscow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the 2020 elections in Belarus, she supported protesters, condemned police brutality, and participated in rallies in front of the Belarusian embassy in the Russian capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian Prosecutor General’s Office asked its Russian counterparts to extradite the singer for criminal prosecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
