April 9, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Some 62,800 Belarusians currently have residence permits in Lithuania, said Lucija Voi\u0161nis, deputy director of Lithuania’s migration department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s despite strained relations between Minsk and Vilnius, which disagree over human rights and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the Belarusian Business Forum in the Lithuanian capital today, Voi\u0161nis said 74 percent of those people came to her country for work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They included 1,700 cross-border truck drivers, 81 concrete finishers, 36 electricians, 35 welders and 25 plasterers, she said, likely referring to those who had received their residence permits in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Voi\u0161nis went on to say that 130 Belarusians received their residence permits to do business, while about 1,500, on humanitarian grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the migration department’s strategic goals is to “attract as much foreign investment and skilled workers as possible to the country,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to her, 70 companies relocated from Belarus to Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Overall, almost 5,500 Belarusian nationals who started working in these relocated companies in Lithuania came in 2023,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
