April 9, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> A district judge in Brest on April 5 sentenced six people accused of participating in a protest in August 2020, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were charged with violating Article 342 of the Criminal Code carrying punishment for the organization and preparation of actions grossly violating public order or active participation in such actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the case file, the defendants \u201cchanted slogans on the roadway,\u201d displayed white-red-white flags and \u201cobstructed the movement of public transport.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judge Andrej Hru\u0161ko sentenced five defendants to prison: Vital \u010carkasa\u016d and Alaksandar \u017duk, to 2.5 years; Arciom Zavada and U\u0142adzis\u0142a\u016d Barysa\u016d, to two years; and Arciom Kadyra\u016d, to one year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Viasna reported that Kadyra\u016d was a minor in August 2020, and that \u017duk’s sentence was imposed taking into account another sentence he had received under Article 342 for participating in another protest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The judge sentenced the sixth defendant, Maryja Losik, to 2.5 years of restricted freedom, a type of home confinement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
