April 11, <\/strong>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Alaksandr \u0141uka\u0161enka has appointed three former senior officials to the Council of the Republic, the upper house of the Belarusian National Assembly, his press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leanid Zajac, a former deputy prime minister in charge of agriculture, served as deputy speaker of the Council of the Republic in 2021-22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siarhiej Chamienka, a former justice minister, has served as deputy interior minister (2019-21) and at senior positions at the interior ministry (2009-19).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U\u0142adzisla\u016d Tatarynovi\u010d has served with the finance ministry since 1992.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chamienka has been criticized by government opponents for alleged involvement in political purges of lawyers, political parties and non-governmental organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zajac features on Baltic states\u2019 sanction lists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
