April 23, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Territorial troops reservists from the Vilejka district, Minsk region, are holding a drill from April 23 to April 25, the defense ministry’s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement comes two days after the Lithuanian and Polish armed forces launched the joint tactical exercise in the Suwa\u0142ki Gap area, separating Belarus from the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian reservists will practice defending settlements, preparing ambush operations and enforcing martial law in collaboration with people’s militia volunteers, the ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, it also announced the launch of a five-day command-staff exercise of military administration agencies and technical support units involving about 200 reservists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Territorial troops are an auxiliary part of the Armed Forces called up in times of war or tense military and political situations. They are formed of persons who had military training and are currently in reserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May 2023, Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin announced that territorial defense \u201cis being transformed from a support system into a full-fledged combat one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
