April 25, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Pre-trial Detention Center No 1 in downtown Minsk has stopped receiving parcels for inmates, including about 42 political prisoners, citing “dissolution and relocation,” the Dissidentby rights group said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inmates will be reportedly transferred to the newly constructed detention center in Kaladzi\u010dy outside Minsk or detention facilities in Mahilo\u016d and \u017dodzina, Minsk region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located at the Pi\u0161\u010da\u0142a\u016dski Castle and surrounding facilities, the center has around 100 cells, including those for death row inmates. It is the only penitentiary facility in Belarus, where death sentences are carried out. Since 1991, more than 300 people have been executed there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The castle dates back to 1825 and was used as a jail for political opponents in the Russian Empire. Writers Vincent Dunin-Marcinkievi\u010d, Jakub Ko\u0142as and many other prominent Belarusians were held there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After one of the castle towers collapsed in 2008, prisoners were moved to buildings constructed in the mid-1970s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
