April 25, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The All-Belarusian People’s Assembly has approved a military doctrine of Belarus presented by Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The doctrine has become targeted and clearly identifies the sources of threats to the Republic of Belarus,” he said. “For the first time we openly draw the attention of the international community to the regional ambitions of the Polish leadership, who may try to realize them by military means.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The doctrine also highlights threats by opponents to use military force against Belarus in peacetime, he noted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka stressed that he allowed Russia to deploy a few dozens of \u201cstate-of-the-art nuclear munitions\u201d in Belarus to deter adversaries. Western countries should understand that “their capital cities are very close” to Belarus’ border, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Should they enter our territory, we will instantly respond with all kinds of weapons, including from the Russian Federation,” he said. “We are determined to resist any aggressor one hundred percent and inflict serious damage.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The All-Belarusian People\u2019s Assembly is formed of officials and pro-government delegates who approve key domestic and foreign policies, military doctrines, national security documents, as well as socioeconomic plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is eligible to propose constitutional amendments and rule on the legitimacy of elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
