April 30, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Athletes will have to decide for themselves whether they want to participate in the upcoming Olympic Games as neutrals, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has said during his tour of the Mahilo\u016d region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He urged those who have qualified to “kick some ass, show them that you’re a real Belarusian,” his press office cited him as saying. “Should you come out as a winner, it will be a good occasion for us to kick their ass politically.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“What these scoundrels [the International Olympic Committee (IOC) officials] are doing does not make sports any better, especially the Olympic movement,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Olympics used to be peaceful competitions when wars were paused, the Belarusian ruler noted. “You see what they have become now,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Russian troops invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the IOC urged sports federations to ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It later recommended that some of them should be allowed as neutral athletes under certain conditions, such as not supporting the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In December 2023, the IOC allowed neutrals to compete in the 2024 Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Olympics will be held in France from July 26 to August 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
