May 3, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Authorities have arrested Babrujsk man Aleh Kira\u016d, Mediazona<\/em> reported. Police released a video of him saying that he used to be part of football fans’ movement and rooted for FC Bie\u0142\u0161yna, participated in the 2020 protests and later signed up for the opposition Pieramoha (Victory) Plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported the arrest of an unnamed Hrodna resident who told an agent provocateur, Juryj Komar, in a video chat that he supported fighters of the Kastu\u015b Kalino\u016dski Regiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Security forces also arrested a Minsker who allegedly posted negative comments about the government and police, participated in postelection protests, signed up for the Pieramoha Plan and made inquiries about joining the Ukrainian forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, human rights defenders reported on numerous trials of regime critics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Masty District Court considered a case of Piotra Davydzik, Pravo Imeyut reported. Whether he was found guilty of disseminating “extremist” information is unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minsk City Court started hearing a case against businessman U\u0142adzimir Ba\u0142abanovi\u010d. He is accused of calling for sanctions and inciting hatred in connection with politically-sensitive social media posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vadzim Bahatyro\u016d and Andrej Jakimienka went on trial in a Hrodna court for alleged violent disorder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dziat\u0142ava District Court opened the trial of \u0179micier Danil\u010dyk, accused of insulting government officials with his social media posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Brest Regional Court began to try political prisoner Ja\u016dhien Pielachaty, accused of breaking six laws that are typically used to prosecute regime critics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for other political prisoners, Ksienija \u0141uckina’s former fellow inmate said on social media that the journalist again had pneumonia in the penal colony. Dissidentby reported that the Re\u010dyca District Court placed activist Palina \u0160arenda-Panasiuk under preventive supervision. She is expected to be released on May 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the Belarusian-European border, officers continue to interrogate and arrest travelers. Human rights defenders have learned of several such incidents in late April. People were arrested at the Belarusian-Polish border, placed in a temporary detention facility and then tried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of May 2, human rights defenders identified at least 1,386 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented. Opposition sources estimate the number of political prisoners at around 5,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
