May 6, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The problem of political emigration from Belarus requires a long-term solution, such as the New Belarus Passport, opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja said today in Kaunas after a lecture on regional stability and security at Vytautas Magnus University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We will urge countries to recognize this passport. This is an unprecedented step that no one has ever taken in this form,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In late March, her United Transitional Cabinet announced that the establishment of a passport center and a team of professionals to deal with the New Belarus Passport was nearing completion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If one leader steps forward and says: ‘I will not allow dictators to think that people are their property, that they can destroy hundreds of thousands of families,’ others would follow, I am absolutely sure of it. If a hundred countries recognize this document, the rest would do the same,” the politician said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian opposition launched the initiative after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka signed an edict in September 2023, ordering Belarusian missions abroad to stop providing passport services to Belarusians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
