May 7, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarus will not give in to provocation, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka said at a grand rally ahead of Victory Day, May 9. It is not going to fight with anyone because “it is not for me to throw people into the crucible of war,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our task: if an enemy boot steps on our land again, we should inflict unacceptable damage on the enemy,” \u0141uka\u0161enka was quoted as saying by Pul Pervogo<\/em>, the unofficial Telegram channel of his press office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the strongman, it has become a “common practice to rudely and unceremoniously interfere in the affairs of sovereign states.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is simply enough to declare an undesirable country a zone of interests or a threat to national security, and the carpet bombing and overthrow of the ‘undemocratic’ regime will immediately follow,” \u0141uka\u0161enka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his opinion, the “expansion of military blocs and alliances to the detriment of other countries’ security is also heating up the situation.” He pointed out the “unprecedented build-up of NATO capabilities in our region.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“All this is already [happening] near the western and southern borders of our Belarus,” he said, adding that “from certain figures we hear talk of war and nuclear strikes.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka also commented on his order to start a sudden check of nuclear delivery systems. According to him, the check is purely defensive. He called nuclear arms “a weapon of deterrence and defense.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“No one will go on the offensive with this weapon,” \u0141uka\u0161enka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, Belarus responds to all attempts of intimidation “with a consistent peacekeeping position and the policy of strategic deterrence.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka addressed “the peoples of the near and far abroad”: “Stop the mad politicians. Do not give them a chance to turn all living things on the planet into ashes.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He recalled the year 1945 and said Belarus and Russia defend their “common historical memory,” not only their frontiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is not only military might that is important today. Not even the most modern weapons can break the people if there is unity. Our opponents understand this well and do everything to divide us,” \u0141uka\u0161enka said. He added that he does not believe in the desire of well-fed Western Europeans to go to the trenches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“They have lost the habit and our youth do not want it either. But we must be prepared for anything. I do not believe that they have gone mad. I do not believe that they will cross the line they have drawn. But we must be strong to prevent them from doing it, organized and monolithic,” \u0141uka\u0161enka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On February 24, 2022, Russia began a full-scale war against Ukraine, in which the authorities in Minsk support the Kremlin. The Russian army carried out a direct attack on the neighboring country from Belarusian territory. Then, missile strikes on Ukrainian cities were carried out for several months. The Russian military also used Belarusian military infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Western nations support Ukraine and regularly express concerns about a possible Russian attack on a NATO country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Belarusian officials accuse Western nations, without providing substantive evidence, of planning to attack Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
