May 10, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Maj. Gen. Viktar Hulevi\u010d has been dismissed as General Staff chief\/first deputy defense minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka signed an edict to that effect today, the presidential press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hulevi\u010d was transferred to the reserve on retirement, with the right to wear military uniform and insignia, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The general was born on May 14, 1969, in the S\u0142uck district, Minsk region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He graduated from the Moscow Higher Combined Armed Forces Command School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hulevi\u010d began his service as a commander of a motorized rifle platoon in the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the collapse of the USSR, he returned to Belarus to lead the parachute and airborne regiment of the 103rd Separate Guards Airborne Division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2002 he graduated with a gold medal from the command and staff faculty of the Military Academy of Belarus. He served in various command positions, including chief of staff\/first deputy commander of the 38th Separate Guards Air Assault Brigade and commander of this brigade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2017, he graduated from the faculty of the Armed Forces’ General Staff. He was then appointed chief of staff\/first deputy commander of the Special Operations Forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2020, he was named commander of the Western Operational Command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He headed the General Staff since March 11, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hulevi\u010d holds a PhD in military science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has been sanctioned by the 27 EU countries, the United Kingdom, Canada and other democratic states for his support of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
