May 10, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The arrests of Andrej Juchnievi\u010d (Andrzej Juchniewicz), rector of the church of Our Lady of F\u00e1tima in \u0160umilina, Viciebsk region, and priest Pavie\u0142 Lemiech were made on suspicion of subversive activity against the Belarusian state, the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the report, at the beginning of Russia’s war against Ukraine Juchnievi\u010d publicly expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people and urged the faithful to pray for a speedy end to the conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The arrests were made yesterday after the Viciebsk diocese\u2019s priests and monks had met at the church on May 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least 26 Roman Catholic Church clerics and believers have been persecuted in the country since 2020, according to the human rights group Chry\u015bcijanskaja Vizija.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
