May 16, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Polish Sejm yesterday voted for amendments to the education law dealing mostly with assistance to Ukrainian nationals but also benefiting Belarusian nationals, the PAP <\/em>news agency reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joanna Mucha, the Polish deputy education minister, linked the amendment to a recent refusal by Belarus to certify the validity of high school diplomas, making holders’ education in Poland impossible. She added that about 5,000 Belarusians could be affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian government in October 2022 terminated its agreement with Poland on the recognition of education documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a study by the iSANS think tank, the Belarusian government has recently taken steps to discourage youths from studying in the West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The researchers noted that officials’ efforts to limit Belarusians’ access to European education are “accompanied by unprecedented activity of Russia and China in the field of educational cooperation.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
