May 20, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Valer Kavale\u016dski, deputy chairman of the United Transitional Cabinet (UTC), and officials from the US Department of State have discussed immigration, including the extension of American visas for Belarusian nationals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the UTC’s press office, the negotiations took place during the politician’s working visit to the United States from May 9 to 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The talks at the Department of State also focused on tighter sanctions against the regime of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and linking them to a mechanism of “accountability for international crimes,” it reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Kavale\u016dski discussed the participation of Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja in the NATO summit in Washington in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the US capital, Kavale\u016dski met with representatives of the National Security Council and the US Agency for International Development to seek more support for Belarusian civil society and independent media. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discussions in the US Senate and Congress focused on updating the Belarus Democracy Act and coordinating joint actions. The Belarusian politician also met with diplomats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kavale\u016dski told the Americans about the forthcoming election for the Coordination Council and preparations for a presidential race in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In New York, according to the UTC’s press office, Kavale\u016dski “had consultations on UN topics.” He was also preparing Cichano\u016dskaja’s participation in events on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in September. The politician told his partners about “the increasing military threat from \u0141uka\u0161enka’s regime and the deteriorating situation of political prisoners.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Boston, he participated in a discussion at Harvard University’s Davis Center on the Russian threat to the independence of Belarus. He also met with members of the Belarusian community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
