May 23, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Security officers have searched the Belarusian homes of candidates for the Coordination Council from Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka’s coalition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“At these hours there are mass searches in the apartments of members of the election committee for the team of Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka and Movement for Freedom, which is involved in elections for the KR of the Belarusian democratic forces, and their relatives. Officers of the Committee for State Security come to their apartments, search them and seize their property. We already know of 12 such cases,” the coalition told Pozirk<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It commented on the crackdown by saying that “the regime of [Alaksandar] \u0141uka\u0161enka is afraid of the alternative elections for the representative body of Belarus’ democratic forces.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 21, the Investigative Committee opened criminal cases against all candidates for the Coordination Council. Their property could be confiscated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 250 candidates have been accused of conspiracy to overthrow the government, extremism and calls for international sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
