May 31, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and Russian President Vladimir Putin have discussed “security issues and preventing the escalation of the Ukrainian conflict\u201d in a phone call, the Belarusian ruler’s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kremlin has not commented on this specific topic in the call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka reportedly informed Putin of his upcoming visits to Mongolia and Russia’s Irkutsk province. The sides also discussed the planned Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia and Russia’s participation in the Independence Day military parade in Minsk on July 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The press offices of both leaders said the call also focused on the upcoming summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Kazakhstan’s Astana, where Belarus is expected to become a full member of the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine in which the Belarusian authorities supported the Kremlin. The Russian army used Belarusian territories to carry out a direct attack on Ukraine and shell Ukrainian cities for several months.
