May 31, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Siarhiej Syranko\u016d has been elected first secretary of the central committee of the Communist Party of Belarus, the party announced on its website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision was made at the CPB congress on May 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the congress, Syranko\u016d expressed his dissatisfaction with the results of the February elections: seven Communists became members of the House of Representatives and 307 more became members of local councils<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Personally, I think the results could have been much better,” he said. He called on the party to begin “serious, systematic work.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Syranko\u016d, 40, was born in Krasnapolle (Mahilo\u016d region). He studied English and German at Mahilo\u016d State University and administration and ideology at the Academy of Public Administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was chief specialist of the Krasnapolle District Executive Committee’s ideological department, first deputy head of the Mahilo\u016d Regional Executive Committee’s education department and member of the regional council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former CPB leader, Alaksiej Soka\u0142, was elected secretary of the party’s central committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
