June 4, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Only the owners are allowed to export passenger vehicles no older than five years from Lithuania to Belarus from June 4, the Lithuanian Customs announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Powers of attorney, including those issued to relatives, will not be considered, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agency cited a European Union regulation on restrictive measures in response to Russia’s destabilization of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It prohibits the direct or indirect export of these cars to individuals or entities in Russia, or for use in Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 23, the Financial Times<\/em> reported that the EU was preparing to tighten its sanctions against Belarus to close the loophole that allows Russians to import premium vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The monthly exports of cars and spare parts from the EU to Belarus increased from $50 million in January 2022 to $268 million in January 2024, the paper said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was the largest export item from the EU to Belarus, which imported cars mainly from Germany and Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
