June 14, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Belarus have exported plenty of weapons to Azerbaijan for four years, Politico <\/em>reported, citing leaked secret files that “shed new light” on Armenia’s plan to withdraw from the Russian-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk and Baku reportedly struck the deals amid rising tensions between Azerbaijan and Belarus\u2019 CSTO ally Armenia, leading to Azerbaijan\u2019s capture of the Nagorno-Karabakh last fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus modernized old artillery equipment, as its defense companies received orders for state-of-the-art artillery targeting equipment for Azerbaijan, the report said. Minsk also supplied new electronic warfare systems, UAVs and Groza-S counter-drone mobile warfare stations for Azerbaijan\u2019s armed forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The decision by Belarus \u2014 a staunch ally of Russia \u2014 to supply advanced military hardware to Azerbaijan between 2018 and 2022, giving it the upper hand in a spate of wars with its long-standing rival, will have been regarded as a bitter betrayal by Armenia,” Politico <\/em>stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After decades of reliance on Moscow, Armenia is now “on the verge of making a historic tilt toward the West” as it seeks more protection from Europe and NATO, it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Relations between Minsk and Yerevan deteriorated on June 13 after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he and other Armenian officials would not travel to Belarus as long as Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka is in power. Pashinyan was angered by \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s declaration of support for Azerbaijan and his recent tour of Nagorno-Karabakh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both countries recalled their ambassadors for consultations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
