June 15, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarus will focus on Eurasian security, sustainable development and cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), says Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s congratulatory message on the bloc’s 23rd anniversary ahead of its July summit, which is expected to approve Belarus’ bid to join.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SCO managed to construct a “unique” alliance, promoting equal partnership and ensuring strategic independence in the emerging multipolar world order, he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus’ priority will be countering “the three forces of evil \u2013 separatism, extremism and terrorism,” \u0141uka\u0161enka stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following peaceful protests against the presidential election fraud in 2020, authorities in Minsk launched an unprecedented politically-motivated crackdown, equating criticism, solidarity, advocacy, the free media and free expression to extremism and terrorism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Established in 2001, the SCO comprises China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus has been the SCO\u2019s partner since 2010 and an observer since 2015. Minsk applied for SCO membership in July 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
