June 17, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> This week, Latvia\u2019s government may approve the allocation of \u20ac10 million to fortify the country\u2019s eastern border, grani.lv<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The five-year plan, approved by Riga in March, is part of the Baltic Defense Line along the border with Russia and Belarus. The three Baltic states announced it in January amid illegal migration concerns and potential military threats from Moscow and Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plan features the construction of defensive positions and fortifications for soldiers, various types of barriers, anti-tank ditches and ammunition depots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia planned to dig anti-tank ditches reinforced with concrete blocks, \u201cdragon’s teeth\u201d and plant anti-tank mines, its defense ministry said earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first stage of the plan is expected to be completed by October. Its total cost is estimated at \u20ac303 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
